Rain was with us most of the 4 hour drive from Crystal Beach to Lake Somerville State Park. Our campsite is very wooded with several trails throughout the campground and surrounding area. Thursday was mostly rain on and off throughout the day, but we did manage to get in a little hike to checkout our surroundings.

A hike on Friday started out drizzly, but quickly resolved and we were able to see more of the area. I wanted to checkout some of the wildflowers I could see along the roads while driving, like Bluebonnet, the state flower.

As we got closer to the lake area we could see a flock of white pelicans. (“A wonderful bird is the Pelican. His beak can hold more than his belly can.” Dixon Lanier Merritt) They wouldn’t let us get too close. The closer we got the further out they went.

Today we’ll get the bikes out. Hopefully the rain has stopped for now.
We’ll be here til Monday when we head to the Austin area to meet up with Kate, Andy and the kids, vacationing there for Spring break.
