With no plans for Friday, we saw there was a program at 8:30 am called “Coffee With a Ranger”. Once we found out it was free coffee and a free mug we got up early and drove 1 hour up into the Chisos Mountains.
It was much higher and much cooler than where we were staying at Rio Grande Campground. When we found the Ranger at the trailhead to “The Window” we were the only ones there and spent 15 minutes finding out more about the Ranger and his family than the Park.

Since we were right there we decided to hike “The Window “ trail. It’s 2 miles downhill with 1/4 mile of steps to start. The mountains get closer together as you descend. The last 1/4 mile is a dry stream bed that drops 150’ at the “window”, where the canyon walls frame the valley below.

I know there’s a scene in an Indian Jones movie with the same scenario.

This was another great day, but without the great food.
