This has always been the focal point of the trip for me. Everything else was just a means to get here.

We have been here 6 hours and already we’ve seen two 4” long millipedes,

Road runners, wild javelinas,

free range horses, burrows,

and cows walking right through the campsites.

Adele is happy we gave up tent camping. Every site has a big metal box for the tent people’s food storage as there’s a healthy population of black bear, as well as mountain lions, bobcats, and coyotes.
I am writing this so I stay awake long enough to see the night sky. This is rated the darkest sky in the lower 48. Did you know the stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas?
Tomorrow we hope to wake up and do a bird watching tour with a ranger.
Many more things to do in the coming days. Stay tuned.
