We took a guided paddle trip through the northern most cypress swamps in the United States, which happen to be in the southern most tip of Illinois. They were booked up yesterday, and since it’s now Monday we were the only ones there. We had our own personal guide.

The trees grow knees that stick up out of the water. Not to be confused with “ the bees knees” which I thought they were.

This is the oldest cypress tree in Illinois. It is more than 1200 years old.

Wow, that is cool. 1200 years and still going strong.
Kind of cool. Who knew Illinois had a cypress swamp.
What kind of critters inhabit the swamp?
Really cool. Who ever thought you could kayak through a swamp!
Illinois has so many cool environments! A private kayak trip – wonderful. Wish I could have been there. Love swamps.
